Wise Earth Ayurveda®

Ayurveda (Ayu-“life”, Veda-“knowledge”) means the “knowledge” or “science of life." Ayurveda is thought to be the oldest healing science in existence with its origin dating back close to 10,000 years inspired by the Vedas. Ayurvedic Medicine provides a holistic model for diagnosis, prevention, treatment and enhancing health and vitality that supports the total health of each person and the community. It focuses on self-healing or healing without medicine.

Established in 1981, The Wise Earth School of Ayurveda is a unique and pioneering school of Ayurveda founded by Maya Tiwari. The school is a non-profit organization whose curricula is recognized and approved by NAMA (National Ayurveda Medical Association).

Through Wise Earth Ayurveda's focus on Inner Medicine® education and Sadhana Practices, we learn that reclaiming our connection to Nature's rhythms, cultivating inner awareness and living a life of Ahimsa (non-harming) is the key to individual and communal health and peace.

Wise Earth education teaches us that through sadhana, (daily practices that we live every day, each month or each season, in acoordance with Nature's rhythms), we learn to "mine our own extraordinary resource of Inner Medicine® while preserving harmony and world peace." We learn the Sadhana tradtion of Wise Earth Ayurveda® to bring nature's interrelated nourishers and healers to our physiology and to bring peace and balance. These Nourishers are Food, Breath and Sound (annavidya, pranavidya, and manitravidya).

Ayurveda and Constitution

According to Ayurveda, the basis of symptoms and illness lies in the disconnection of body and mind with consciousness and the natural rhythms of the day and seasons and our lives. When our whole self (body, mind and spirit) are integrated and we follow nature’s inherent rhythms, balance and health ensue. This ancient medical system looks at the psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of symptoms and diseases to uncover their root causes, address one’s unique individual needs for a healthy immune system, healthy aging and disease prevention, enhance overall vitality, and generate self healing, so we can live well, joyful, conscious and purposeful lives.

There are three fundamental psycho-physiologic-energetic forces in Ayurveda (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) called doshas that regulate all aspects of our health and Nature. Our constitution, our metabolic type, our physiology, is influenced by these doshas and imbalances in these dosha can lead to disruption of our normal body/mind/energy mechanisms, resulting in symptoms and disease. Balance of the doshas support optimum health.

Through obtaining a history, physical and pulse diagnosis, you can learn your underlying constitution and imbalances, as they relate to your doshas. Ananda Health Center for Integrative Medicine can integrate an Ayurvedic diagnosis with an allopathic one to create recommendations for your treatment. By recommending lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, Sadhana, (daily practices that we do in accordance with Nature's rhythms), and herbs, Ayurveda can support treatment of chronic diseases such as hypertension, hormone and immune imbalances, hypercholesterolemia, stress, obesity, gastrointestinal disturbances, mood disorders, skin conditions, and sleep disturbances, as well as help prevent diseases and enhance health and happiness.
